Creating a more comfortable pedestrian-friendly environment is part of the BID's Georgetown 2028 Plan for the commercial district. From April through November, the Georgetown Business Improvement District is implementing sidewalk widenings each weekend on the 3200 block of M Street, NW. The pilot program enables visitors and residents to enjoy eight more feet of space for an improved pedestrian experience.

The program begins at 6 a.m. on Saturdays and runs through 6 p.m. on Sundays, weather permitting. Drivers can also get discounted, $6 all-day parking at the PMI garage (3307 M St. NW) on Saturdays and Sundays during the sidewalk widenings.

Coinciding with the sidewalk widening program, the BID sponsors free, northbound DC Circulator bus rides April-October. The Union Station-Georgetown route runs along Wisconsin Avenue NW from K Street stops in Georgetown to the top of Book Hill.
